Damasio, Antonio

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

Antonio Damasio is a neuroscientist and philosopher of consciousness. His books include "Descartes Error"", which argues, inter alia, that the source of consciousness is knolwedge of one's internal bodily state. Crucially, he challenges Descrates' separation of body and mind and argues that emotion and rationality are intinately linked. This is important for AI research as it suggests that not only that artificial consciousness, if possible, depends on artificial emotion, but actually any true AI requires this too.
